Psychotherapy
My background and approach
I am a licensed counseling psychologist and my work has been with late adolescents (18-30 years) and adults (30+ years) in individual and group therapy.
I’ve worked in college counseling centers, substance use centers, correctional settings, and community agencies serving survivors of political torture and victims of violence.
My trauma-informed training tends to be most helpful for People of Color, immigrants, LGBTQ folx, and women.
My approach to therapy addresses individual & societal change. Therapy can help us understand our history, patterns, and triggers. Therapy can also help us recognize our connection with societal injustices (like racism, sexism, heterosexism). Being able to identify the root of the problem means we won't keep spinning our wheels trying to change things that are beyond our control. For example, there is nothing wrong with being a Woman of Color. The problem is racism and sexism and how it hurts all of us. The burnout is real, the exhaustion is real, and unless we carve out this time for ourselves, it may feel like you're losing yourself just trying to get through the daily grind.
Areas of Focus:
Acculturation and adaptation
Family issues / intergenerational differences
Relationship / communication issues
Grief / loss counseling
Adult trauma / PTSD
Licensed Psychologist: PSY #31940

About my clients |
You look like you're doing it all. But you're in survival mode... and even more so in our current sociopolitical climate. You're exhausted, burned out, and trying to stay afloat. My approach to therapy is about empowerment and understanding the connection between your environment, your current struggles and life history. How much of the burnout is the environment vs. you? How much of your survival strategies is embedded in your cultural background? Across generations? How have these ways of doing things helped you... and hurt you?

About me |
I am a temporarily able-bodied, Taiwanese American, cisgender, heterosexual woman. I am also a feminist, an aspiring anti-racist, and an LGBT-ally. I am politically active, outspoken, and identifiable in the public eye for many reasons. Since 2020, I have been featured, cited, and interviewed in the media on the topic of anti-Asian racism, anti-immigrant sentiments, and the need for cross-racial coalition building. Aside from offering clinical services, I am also a professor and Dean of DEI at my university's School of Education & Psychology. I hope to make structural changes that promote inclusiveness, safety, and accessibility for students, staff, and faculty. I teach, mentor, and advise graduate students. I conduct research to advocate for BIPOC communities and needs. I consider self-care to be a form of community-care and encourage all of us to engage in this act of resistance, revolution, and care.
